Q - When building a exterior deck, what is the best materials to use ?
A - For longevity cedar or PVC composite materials are your best bet, Pressure treated lumber is best when cost is a factor. The only downside is the deck surface will require annual maintenance to preserve the decks appearance and integrity.
Q - When painting over older paint should I prep the surfaces ?
A - Yes you should prep the surfaces. First you should wash the surface with mild soap and water, let dry and then use an etching primer on all surfaces before finial paint.
Q - What is the best way to repair a stripped hole in wood ?
A - If the hole is small enough use a golf tee. insert a lightly sanded & glued tee into the stripped hole and wait until it dries. Then cut off and insert the screw.
Q - What is the best way to repair a scratch or nick on stained wood trim ?
A - I have found that CRAYOLA crayons have almost all the colors needed to remedy this problem. Just pick out a close color to the trim stain, rub on and wipe off any extra with WD-40.
Q - Fixing nail holes in wall surfaces do I need anything special?
A - No just use white toothpaste. Wipe off any extra let dry and paint if needed.
Q - What is the best washing machine hoses to use for replacement ?
A - Braided stainless hoses are the best to use and will outlast the standard supplied rubber hoses at least 2-1.
Q - My water flow from our kitchen sink doesn't flow as fast as it used to be, what should I check ?
A - First if your faucet has an aerator unscrew it from the faucet and check the screen to make sure there is no blockage. If there is, simply run hot water thru the screen in the opposite direction to remove any sediment re-attach the aerator to the faucet and re-check the flow again.
Q - Does it matter what gauge wire I install when re-wiring either a wall switch or receptacle ?
A - Yes it does matter what gauge wire you use. lighting circuits should be 14-2 with a ground wire, and wall outlets should be 12-2 with a ground wire. As with all wiring repair or replacement you should contact a certified electrician to do this work. They know best.
Q - How do I know if my thermo pane windows have lost their efficiency ?
A - The best way to determine this, is to look at the corners of the glass for condensation building up. This is a typical sign that the seal has deteriorated allowing the argon gas to escape. Time to replace the window!
Q - My vinyl exterior windows are very hard to open & close, what can I use to remedy this problem ?
A - The best way to lubricate any vinyl window is to use PAM cooking spray. Spray the side rails and operate the window several times to allow the spray to work.
